Just Beachy!

I am so excited to share that I was asked by Sue Wojtkowski of Irreversibly Moi to create for her Art Journal Project Challenge.  You can find out all about it HERE.

I was able to choose the topic "Just Beachy," one of my favorite things, so I set out to create a page centered around that theme.  I started with a page in my journal that aleady had some color and design on it.  I always clean my paintbrushes and stencils off on pages in my journal.  I have pages and pages like this, that have some color and shapes already on them. It's an easy way to get past that "blank page" syndrome or to use a jump start to creating.

I used some Adirondack Paint Dabbers from Ranger.  I like these because they have a sponge top on them, great for apply paint.

I used the Dabbers to apply layers of sand colors and rubbed them with a baby wipe.  I blended in some wipe and then moved up into aqua and turquoise colors for the sky.  I like the way the background shows through.  Don't spend a lot of time on this part - you could potentially rub on so much paint that you loose all the layers underneath.

I'm sure you probably get as many catalogs, magazines and junk mail that I do. Before I recycle them, I always flip through the pages and clip out anything that looks interesting. I keep them in a clear plastic box and pull them out sometimes for inspiration. I found these cute images in my box.  I loved the fish, so I cut those out and applied with gel medium.  I was going to cut out the crab too, but I decided to sketch him and paint him instead.

I started adding more elements -- stamped images and other sketches.  I had a really big open space in the middle of the page, so I added a beach umbrella.  Perfect.  Now all I need is some sun block and a pina colada!

Hope you enjoyed the challenge - thanks to Sue of Irreversibly Moi for including me! Be sure to stop by her blog to say hi!
